Direct Repair
With accurate leak location provided by concrete slab leak detection, leaky pipes can be repaired directly. The leaky segment of the copper line will be taken out and replaced only after the plumber drills a hole through the floor. If you have one slab leak with direct repair, the likelihood of having another is considerable. Warranties do not cover future leaks in other sections of the pipe when plumbers just fix the damaged area. Additionally, if a leak appears in one area, the pipe is already predisposed to more leaks.
For homes with post-tension slab foundations for earthquake protection, direct repair is not an option. Going through the floor is also necessary for direct slab leak repairs. In order to restore floors, walls, and concrete to their pre-leak conditions, choosing this option involves more effort and costs more after restoration. Direct repair has the advantage that many insurance companies will pay for the location service, the cost of travelling to the leak to fix the damage, and the cost of the restoration procedure. Usually, they don’t pay the plumber’s actual repair costs.
